Travel's
Because, for much of the year, Andante will not be returning to a fixed 'base' location, she is likely to travel the waterway network extensively. She normally returns to the Leeds Liverpool for the winter where several of us can look after her and keep her moving often enough to keep C&RT satisfied.
While we may well designate regions for a particular cruising season, there will be a great deal of flexibility and designated regions will be quite extensive. Normal practice will be to hand-over within the designated region unless you have negotiated an alternative plan with the members following you.
Members are asked to make entries into the logbook/diary that will always be on board and also to send a brief report to the club's online forum. This should include (as a minimum), where you went (with overnight moorings), any problems encountered (with the boat or with the waterways), and the engine hours at the end of your trip.
Given that Andante is licensed on a 'Continuous Cruising' basis, it is important that we can show evidence of regular traveling. If you choose to return to your starting point, we still need to know which 'neighbourhoods' you visited during your travels.
2017
From Swanley Marina to Salterforth, to Bingley and back (several times), Leeds and back and also to York and Newark (and back). Also onto parts of the Four Counties Ring, attending the Boatshare Show in the Autumn.
2018
Handover area was the Four Counties Ring, unfortunately coinciding with the breach on the Middlewich Arm.
Cruising included the Llangollen Canal.
2019
Handover area was between Market Harborough, Burton on Trent and Cromwell Lock. Travelling down via the Trent and returning via the Trent & Mersey, Bridgewater etc.. Cruising included the Chesterfield and Fossdyke canals.
2020
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Andante stayed fairly local but did make it through the Ribble Link to the Lancaster Canal, to Eldonian Village, Liverpool and around the Cheshire Ring.
2021
Handover area was the Birmingham Canal Network but several members traveled further afield, including the River Avon. Due to a major breach at Rishton, on the Leeds and Liverpool. Andante travelled to Skipton, where we had a dry dock booking in March, via the Rochdale Canal, Calder & Hebble Navigation, Aire and Calder Navigation and finally the Leeds & Liverpool from Leeds.
2022
Handover area of Ashby, Coventry and North Oxford Canals, including the Leicester section/River Soar, Trent & Mersey to Fradley to loop into the Coventry to Tamworth/Fazeley and Grand Union to Braunston.
2023
Agreed canal network for this year is the Llangollen canal including Montgomery, Trent & Mersey and as far as Middlewich, Shropshire Union canal between Ellesmere Port, Chester & Nantwich.
